Fun new set
Very cute, new Star Wars Lego set. Easy to put together for your 6 year old with a nice amount of mini-figures.

PRO’s-5 nice and very cool mini-figures (2 Hoth Troopers, 2 Snowtroopers, Hoth Han Solo) plus a great looking Taun Taun figure (so I guess you could say 6 figures). Cool looking Snowtrooper weapon and a rotating gun turret with a hidden door and top hatch to hold a figure. Also neat is behind the ’snow’ wall the two Hoth Troopers stand on a tilting platform. When you push down on the center section you can snap the figures into the air simulating an expolsion.

CON’s- The turret at times comes off too easily from the base but it’s still very playable.

I recommend it for younger Star Wars Lego fans and for fans looking for some neat figures.

Great (Slightly Overpriced) LEGO Set
I bought this set and put it together in about fifteen minutes with my daughter. We were very excited when we got the set, because it comes with both a Woody and a Buzz mini figure, as well as the RC Car. After putting it together, the RC car was surprisingly fast, and also incredibly fragile. The slightest mishandling will cause the car to fall apart. Buzz’s visor suffers from the same problem. The RC car is also kind of small.
Overall, this is a neat set, though it seems like it should have been a little cheaper. You are basically paying twenty dollars for two mini figures, since the car is going to fall apart so often, you’ll probably just leave it alone. This set is recommended to fans of Toy Story, especially since it is the only way to get both Woody and Buzz in one set.

Toy Story and Lego! What’s not to love?
While we love Legos in our house, I was disappointed in RC. I had to super glue on Buzz’s helmet, the back fin, the body of the car and the front bumper pieces.

It is super cool that it takes off when you pull it back, but if RC goes too fast, it all falls apart… hence the super glue.

Once it was all glued, it worked great and my son (6 years old) loves it!

Great Stuff
Looks just like the movie - my kid loves these legos, some of the best looking legos I have seen.

No Longshot but it looks good
As many who love Nerf blasters already know, the Lonstrike is a concept design come to life from the N-Strike video game. It is also supposed to be the next Nerf sniper rifle.

The good:
-The external design is really cool.
-It can hold two extra clips in the stock (not removable like the Recon or Raider).
-Has three tactical rails for extras.
-The barrel extension really helps give the blaster the feel of a sniper rifle. I even like the placement of the latch points to put a shoulder strap.

The bad:
-The internals are the same as the Recon. It is a reverse plunger system. What that means is the range performance is much weaker than the Longshot (uses a direct plunger).
-The iron sight. As neat as the concept is, this was considered a useless add on with the Recon, I think the same could be said here.
-The permanent stock. Though it is nice that the stock can hold 2 extra clips, it is also a cool looking blaster without it. I personally modded mine so I could take it off.
-The claim of being the Longest blaster. Its 2 inches or so longer than a Longshot…

The mods:
-The standard mods are the same with most blasters, except I didn’t see a air hole in the chamber like the other clip system blasters. AR removal is the same as the Recon. In fact most Recon mods probably apply to this blaster.
-Mod the stock so it can come off, but be careful not to shave the catches too much.

I like the look of the blaster and the concept. I am disappointed that the internals are not like the Longshot and that the out of box performance was so weak compared to the out of box Longshot.

Looks can be deceiving…
I purchased the Longstrike to add to my cubicle arsenal at work… Considering that most Nerf products are meant for children, my review might not be geared toward what a child thinks or deems as “good,” but I will try to highlight the pro’s and con’s of the product and compare it to the rest of the Nerf lineup that I have used before. Here at work, we also have the Longshot, Raider, Vulcan, and Maverick.

Overall build quality of the toy gun is fairly good. It has the same blue plastic camo design of the Raider, and is durable in the sense that it was dropped to carpeted flooring from a height of ~5 feet and nothing so far has broken or cracked off. It feels fairly nice in your hands, and with all the add-on plastic accessories it looks nice (such as the longer barrel, the ‘iron’ sights, and the non-adjustable butt stock.) The bolt action and slide mechanism was fairly smooth, is identical to how a stock Longshot is racked, and give this gun a more of a “rifle” feel, as I think Hasbro was intending. Ammo clips are interchangeable with the Raider’s drum magazine, however it is quite awkward to hold with the drum in place. In a cubicle/office area where it is used, it is fairly large (in full rifle format) compared to the Raider. The extra ammo clip holder in the fixed stock is a nice touch, however it is a little difficult to get the magazine out once it has been inserted. Six shots go fast in an office firefight.

With the reverse plunger system that applies the power to the darts, your dart range is very limited. We have fairly long hallways and when the longer barrel attachment is added, range and velocity is fairly poor. Actually I would describe it as dismal. The Longstrike has the “looks” of a rifle, but let me assure you, it is not. Accuracy, well, it’s not like i’m expecting this to be super accurate, (it’s shooting foam darts, duh!) but with the full barrel, my test shots showed the longer barrel configuration greatly reduced the range due to friction against the dart and did not significantly improve the shot accuracy when compared to just the built-in barrel. Stock firing distances were less than a non-modified Raider.. about 25 feet, unless you arc the shot… I suppose in an near close-quarter cube battle, this would suffice, but remember this comes with a non-collapsible stock, it’s not that maneuverable. The Longstrike is limited in rate of fire especially with the bolt action. The iron sights look nice, but are pretty worthless, even with the “elevation” hashmark gimmick (which reminds me of a grenade launcher sight)

Modifications? Ugh. don’t get me started.. To get the edge in cube warfare, I try my best to get more range and better accuracy. The first thing i did was to remove the air restrictor. Disassembly of the Longstrike is relatively easy, (you will need two different sized phillip screw driver bits.) The plunger system comes out with just two screws and you can get access to the spring assembly. With a 1/2″ extra long drill bit and my portable drill, i was able to remove the restriction fairly easy and it has added about 10+ feet of more range to the darts, but also increased the bolt firing noise significantly. I still have not yet sourced a stronger aftermarket spring yet, however McMaster-Carr seems to have the size compression springs that I need.. more on this later when i figure it all out. My Longshot is modified to have the AR-15 spring, fore-arm shot-gun pump, and air restrictor removed… my Raider has the air restrictor removed as well.. I don’t think the Longstrike will ever get to the ‘potential’ of the Longshot’s range w/o heavy modification to the existing barrel and upgraded spring, and/or dart changes.

In summary, I am dissapointed in the Nerf Longstrike. It is neither accurate, nor does it have the power to get the range you’d expect for a “long strike.” If you want a good 6-shot blaster with decent range, get a Longshot (w/o all that extended barrel junk) and modify that– it has much more potential. If you want a high fire-rate for close quarters, definitely get the Raider with the fore-grip pump action… If you want a good looking gun, well… I guess this is it? For me, the Longstrike, just strikes out.. maybe I’ll change my mind after a suitable spring replacement is found to increase the range/power, but until then, I would recommend you skip this one.

Better than the Longshot
This is a great weapon. It’s lighter, sleeker, and far less cumbersome than it’s Longshot brother. I find it odd that people claim the Longshot’s performance out of box is so great, because I’ve never gotten a great performance from mine. (I bought mine online before they even hit stores though so maybe I got one from a bad batch.) That being said, I was actually very impressed with the Long Strike’s range and accuracy. The barrel extension doesn’t do much to help…but it looks cool. Without the extension this is probably my favorite Nerf rifle now. I’m not a modder (I have young nieces and nephews and they don’t really need to be playing with super-powered Nerf guns.) so for me this gun is perfect just the way it is. The flip up sight is more just for looks than anything and the clip storage in the stock is a lot more efficient than the one on the Longshot.

All in all, I’d say this is the best Nerf rifle on the market right now. There are probably die-hard Nerf modders out there who will disagree with me. But for the rest of us who aren’t looking to mod anything…I would highly recommend buying this one over either the Recon or the Longshot. Then again, if you have the money, buy all three.

less interactive than I hoped
I was hoping that this toy would be a little more hands on and allow the child to move the gears himself to figure out how they cause each other to turn. It is a bit more lights, sounds, and electronic movement than I hoped, and doesn’t leave much room for creativity. I was hoping that it could offer multiple ways to place the gears, but gear placement is limited. My 2 year old does enjoy it for a few minutes, but usually moves on from it once he’s removed and put the gears back on a few times. Although the gears can also be stacked, they are a bit unstable in the stacked position.

My daughter’s favorite toy!
My daughter Hannah received this as a gift for her first birthday. She loves the music and presses the button to just listen to it play. We didn’t think she’d figure out the gears, but she absolutely loves it! she takes the gears off and puts them back on! She totes them around the house in her little basket, and then brings them back to put on the toy. She’ll sit in front of this toy for 20 minutes at a time, walk away and then come back to play some more.
My only issue is that the gears are starting to get lost around our house. Hasbro should provide a few extra gears for when the first few get lost. Overall a terrific toy!!

A definite must have!!!!!!!
My son received this toy for his first birthday! I will be purchasing it as gifts for all my friends!! He LOVES pushing the button and listening the the music. I was wondering if he would be able to figure out the gears, but he has caught on very quickly and loves to take the gears off and put them back on. He also enjoys stacking the gears up and watching them go around! I like that it has a handle so he can carry it around with him. It keeps him involved for up to 20 minutes at a time!
It is very durable as he carries it around, has chewed on the gears (which are made of strong plastic and cannot be marred by chewing on them).

My three year old also likes to play with it! Her play is a little sofisticated with it as she tries to figure out which gears have to be put where (as in, do they have to be next to the middle spinning one) placed to make them spin and how many can be stacked and they still turn.

My one wish is that Playskool would include a few extra gears. We have them everyhwere in our house and cannot always find them all. It would be great if they had a place where you could purchase extra ones for replacements and/or to have extras for stacking.

This is an awesome toy that the kids love, can learn from, and is very durable! It is a must have!!

Great for a rainy day
The previous reviewer summed up the game well. However, it’s important to note that the game is played by all players SIMULTANEOUSLY - which does get the pace picked up quite a bit. You have to be pretty quick in “slamming” a card down to create your new word while the other players are all trying to do the same thing. Thus the four-letter word is ever-changing. I saw the commercial for this game on TV and being from a family that loves games about to head out on a family vacation, went to Target where I saw it for about $5. We played it with four adults, three adults and two adults and during each of those scenarios, had a blast. It was fun trying to stump each other with rare four-letter words. My mom has recommended it to several of her friends who have grandchildren. It’s a great game for kids learning to spell and to challenge their word skills. Warning: After several rounds of this game, you’ll find yourself on the lookout for four-letter words all the time!

If you like four letter words…
I very rarely play card games outside of Rummy and the occasional game of Poker. However, one Sunday morning I noticed a coupon in the USA Today insert which advertised a buy one get one free offer for Hasbro/Parker Brother’s new card games. I picked up “Monopoly Deal” and this game, “Scrabble Slam”.

As card games go this one is pretty simple. A four letter word is laid out on the table (CHUM, LUMP, GATE, etc) and the remaining cards are dealt out to each player. Not all letters are present in the “deck” of 55 cards. There are no Q’s and no X’s, although there are couple of Z’s and several Blanks (which can assume the form of whatever letter you want them to take, just like the Scrabble board game). Each card has two letters on it, one on the front and one on the back, and this allows the player a lot of flexibility to change words that are on the board.

Each player then takes it in turn to lay down a single card anywhere on the 4 letter word. For instance, player 1 may spell GRIM and player two lays down a P to make it GRIP. Player 1 may respond with a T making it TRIP. As the game progresses it can become somewhat challenging to make words out and needless to say that you’ll want to get rid of the harder letters as soon as possible (Z, J, K, etc.) because if that’s all you have left at the end of the game you’re going to be in a world of hurt. The person with the fewest cards at the end of the game wins. If one wants to up the difficulty a bit simply up the number of letters in the word. Just making it 5 letters long had a noticeable effect and made it much more challenging.

I rate this game at 3 1/2 stars. It’s not really a great game but I’ve certainly played worse. It passes the time, which is what it was designed to do, and does so well enough.

Pros:
-Very, very easy game to learn
-Your kids will have fun and learn words along the way. Not a bad thing at all.
-At $5.00 at my local Wally World (do *not* pay the $20.00 they have listed here) this game is a great value.
-The game plays very quickly, clocking in at 20 minutes or less.

Cons:
-It’s not exactly the most exciting game in the world
-Depending upon the number of players and the number of letters on the board some players may get more cards than others, and that makes it a bit unfair trying to determine who the winner will be.
-The Dealer is going to see what cards everyone is getting, although only a MENSA candidate with a photographic memory is going to be able to remember who has what.

A reasonable card game but not great.
I have no idea why the Amazon price is so out of line with reality on this product. I bought this game at Target for less than $5.00.

It is fun to play and stimulates your brain somewhat, but not to the extent of the original Scrabble game. You can modify the rules and play it with younger players (we play it with our four year old).

Amazon also lists a bunch of choking hazard warnings with this product. Unless your kid can swallow a playing card there is no choking hazard that I can find.

It is worth $5.00 but not $16.00.

Don’t - Webkinz Customer Service Makes Toy Unusable
What a shock to learn Ganz (Webkinz manufacturer) makes their customer service department impossible to contact!!

We purchased this Webkinz for our daughter and the special code stamped on the toy’s tag was defective. This code is a vital part of the toy — it is required to access the website and create a virtual life for the pet. Each code is supposed to have 8 letters/numbers — our tag only has 6.

Now the webkinz website registration stopped us immediately when trying to register with just the 6-digit code. We looked in their help section and customer support to contact someone to help. We looked, and read, and looked, and read. Nowhere on the site do they list any phone number or email address to contact the company for help! In fact, a Google search shows that the company stopped accepting email support requests in October of 2008.

Ganz will only take customer support requests from a form on their website. BUT the form requires a valid 8-digit code from the toy. Since they sold us a defective toy, they will not accept our request for help. What a way to treat your customers!

We’re stuck with a defective, expensive toy and *prohibited* from contacting the company for support. Thanks Ganz for taking our money and removing the traditional methods to contact you for help!

Tagless and sad.
Ordered this Valentine Monkey for my grand-daughter who is really into Webkinz and it did not come with the tag. She is really sad because the point is to put them on the web to play. Am trying to contact seller to see if I can get a code sent to her.
